Selling at Auction |
| |
The amount that you receive for a vehicle sold at SWVA will reflect accurately its market value. This amount may be slightly more or slightly less than you anticipate but its unlikely to differ greatly from your estimate.
To safeguard against receiving too little for your vehicle you may set a reserve price on it, providing it is a car not more than ten years old or a motorbike or van not more than seven years old. In the unlikely event of the bidding not reaching your reserve you keep the vehicle.
SWVA provide a free valuation service and it is in the vendor's best interests to consult us before setting a reserve. Please ask at the office. |

Selling "As Seen"
When you sell a vehicle "As Seen" it is up to the prospective buyers to determine its condition and value. All you need to declare is whether the vehicle has suffered major accident damage involving total loss. Failure to declare a total loss, deliberately or not, would oblige SWVA to i) reimburse the buyer in full, less indemnity charge ii) collect full commission from you and iii) return your vehicle to you. All vehicles over 6 years old must be sold "As seen"
Selling "No Major Mechanical Defects"
If you vehicle is in above average condition for its age and likely to make over £1000. it is advantageous to sell it "No Major Mechanical Defects" This enables you to describe the condition of major mechanical components and draw the buyers' attention to such features as climate control and other accessories, etc. Ensure that your description is accurate as the buyer has two hours after the sale to dispute it and misrepresentation (deliberate or not) is likely to make the sale null and void and cost you the full commission. The buyer also has three days in which to examine the chassis for excessive corrosion, welding or accident damage |

Warning
Because the auction is open to the public you may be approached by people calling themselves traders and offering to purchase your vehicle, before it goes through the auction, to save you paying commission. People have sold their vehicles in this way only to discover that the cheques which they have accepted were worth nothing. |

Buyer Protection
You are indemnified against any vehicle you buy at SWVA being stolen property or being subject to outstanding hire purchase payment. Bidding
First time visitors to a vehicle auction can often be put off bidding by the fast pace of proceedings. Please don't be. The fast pace merely enables us to give every vehicle a chance to sell within the allotted time. The auctioneer is not your adversary and he is sufficiently experienced to recognize whether or not you wish to bid. Simply signal to him with a hand or a nod and it is highly unlikely that he will misunderstand you. Do bear in mind, however, that a legal contract is entered into once the hammer has fallen and there may be no question of your changing your mind after that point.

Vehicle Condition
Vehicles are sold either "As Seen" or "No Major Mechanical Defects" Vehicles over 6 years old are sold "As Seen" which means just that; no description is implied or given and it is up to you to judge its condition and value before bidding.
