On the Surface: This is a vintage 1933 Alvis Firefly Tourer and is described by the vendor as being in ‘oily rag’ condition. Owned by the vendor for the last 8 years and the registration document records just three owners from new. The vendor reports that the car is ‘running nicely with good oil pressure.’

Maintenance & History: Under the Vendor’s ownership some maintenance work has been undertaken. The sump has been removed and cleaned out, a new gasket fitted, an oil change completed and the fuel pump rebuilt. Additionally, the carburettor has been reconstructed and new fuel hoses installed. The ignition system has also been thoroughly rebuilt, with the installation of a new coil and the fitting of new points, a rotor arm and a distributor cap.

The car comes with a comprehensive history file filled with paperwork and information. This includes an invoice for the sale of the car in June 1961 for just £50, old MOT certificates, tax discs and pictures of the car. There is also a wealth of invoices, a photocopy of an Alvis Owner’s Club Handbook, a photocopy of an original Alvis Instruction Manual and what appears to be an original Alvis Firefly Handbook.

The Model: The Alvis Firefly, manufactured by Alvis from 1932 to 1934, succeeded the 12/50 TJ model. It features a four-cylinder engine with overhead valves delivering 50 bhp at 4500 rpm thanks to its single SU carburettor. The engine design was a continuation from the 12/50 TH model (1927) and the 12/50 SD model (1927-1929), which made it economical to produce. The Firefly fits neatly into the 1.5-litre class, which was highly popular during its era.

Sale Insight: This 1933 Alvis Firefly Tourer represents a unique opportunity to own a rarer seen vintage motor car. The recent maintenance work is well-documented and would make it a great addition for collectors and enthusiasts.
