Description:

Auctioneers Notes

The car is out of the top draw, she is superb.  According to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, this car was manufactured between the 23.1.and 28.1.1958 and was built in LHD form for the North American market and she was ordered with wire wheels, overdrive, heater, laminated windscreen and road speed tyres.  It also confirms that the engine and chassis numbers are original.  Unfortunately, we have no history appertaining to the time the vehicle spent in the States.  We do, however, have a very comprehensive history file dating from when the vehicle returned to the UK in 1990.  A Mr. Russell owned the car from that period and converted it to RHD.  There is a separate file containing all his invoices, which included a complete engine re-build.  It appears he lost interest in the car in around 1995 and she was left to deteriorate.  She was never registered by him and never used. Sadly, he passed away and the car was purchased by the vendor in September 2013 from the estate.  Incidentally, in a separate file is all the correspondence the vendor had with the DVLA to get the car registered in this country.  The file also includes the customs clearance chits. Invoice for £2500 in February 2019 for clutch and flywheel and brake service.

The vendor, who is a highly skilled engineer, decided to bring this iconic sports car back to life.  His file is immense.  The restoration took from September ’13 to 30.3.16.  He kept a personal log of all the expenses.  The total cost EXCLUDING LABOUR amounted to £21,232.65  – he has not calculated his labour cost –  In that total there is an invoice for a brand new chassis which cost over £4,000 and in January this year a further £3,015.92, including labour, for a new clutch, skimming the fly wheel, re-line all brakes and check tracking.  There is a photographic record of the restoration, and as I have already mentioned an immense file of invoices.  The car was used extensively in Europe and has literally just come back from a 1,500 mile tour and she did not miss a beat.  The interior has been re-trimmed, the hood is new and she is a stunning car.  The only reason why the car has come to market is that the vendor could not resist starting another project.   May be viewed by appointment.
