On the Surface: This charming 1961 Austin-Healey Mk1 ‘Frogeye’ Sprite presents as a nice and honest example, finished in Cherry Red over a Red interior. The Mk1 Sprite has a timeless and much loved design, characterised by its signature “frogeye” headlights.

Maintenance & History: The car comes with a comprehensive history file, including: An Austin-Healey Sprite Workshop Manual and Service Parts List, a Heritage Certificate (documenting its specifications prior to the engine swap), invoices totaling approximately £6,500, reflecting significant maintenance investment and a collection of old MOT certificates.

This example has also been enhanced with several upgrades and refurbishments, including: a more powerful 1275cc engine with an HF carburettor, replacing the standard 948cc unit, upgraded front brakes to discs for improved stopping power, a new fuel tank, an interior overhaul featuring new carpets, upholstery, and vinyl panels and additionally, a newer choke knob has been fitted, though the original knob and cable are supplied for authenticity.

The Model: The Austin-Healey Sprite, produced from 1958 to 1971, was intended to be a low-cost model that in the words of BMC “a chap could keep in his bike shed”, yet be the successor to the sporting versions of the pre-war Austin Seven. The Mk1 Sprite, affectionately nicknamed the “frogeye” debuted in 1958 and gained immediate recognition for its distinctive headlight design. Originally intended to feature retractable headlights, cost-saving measures led to the permanently upright configuration that became its iconic hallmark. This example is well-equipped, featuring complete wet-weather gear, including a soft top, hood frame, sliding side screens, and a full tonneau, all in good condition.
