Description:Description from The Vendor: The Open Road Tourer was purchased in July 1999 to augment our wedding car fleet and this was to become a perfect match for another car already owned. The car was advertised as partially restored and on inspection it was found that the chassis, engine and wheels had been partially completed, but no work had been done on the body which was in a very poor condition. A full nut and bolt restoration was completed in 2000, including the upholstery and new hood at a cost of over £21,000. The money had been well spent as it proved an immediate hit with the brides and grooms to be and was one of the most popular cars in the fleet of 7 cars. Chrome Radiator and Brooklands Green colour body with black wings. The car is beautiful to look at and the side screens can be removed and stored in the door linings when not required. The hood can be folded back and a cover is provided to finish the elegant look of a carriage. Reluctantly for sale due to mobility issues having owned the car for 22 years. The car has toured France twice on holiday and used on many car rallies over the years. A friend has driven the vehicle a few times recently to ensure the car is running smoothly and says the car is a pleasure to drive and pulls exceedingly well. The car has always been kept in a garage. PLEASE NOTE: A new bonnet hinge is supplied ready to be fitted to replace the current hinge.
Auctioneer’s notes: This wonderful example of a 1934 Austin 12/4 “Open Road Tourer” looks great for her 87 years. She was completely restored by the vendor, who has been the custodian for the last 22 years. There is a great amount of interesting paper work on file, including a memory stick with some pictures of the car and some actual photographs of the restoration, old buff log books and V5’s and MOT’s back to 2000, a good number of invoices are also in the file.
