Birkin started production of the Lotus S3 under license from Lotus Cars in the mid 1980’s. This iconic Lotus 7 style car was constructed in 1992. Built to an exceptional standard and maintained to the same level. It is believed that this car was factory built. The odometer is showing under 16,000 miles and although this is not warranted but any inspection will reveal this is almost certainly correct.
Fitted with the iconic Ford Kent 1600cc engine with twin 40dcoe Weber Carbs. The engine also benefits from being South African built and these versions are highly sought after as they have thick engine cylinder walls. Ford 5 speed gearbox with a live rear axle.
This car must be seen to be appreciated.

Auctioneers notes: The Birkin S3 made its debut at the South African Grand Prix in 1983. The launch of this car was very high profile staged by RSA Lotus Distributors and attended by Hazel Chapman, widow of the late Colin Chapman founder of Lotus. Also at the launch was Nigel Mancel,ex Lotus Formula 1 Driver, and they were all finished in team Lotus colours i.e. JPS. Therefore, it is probably incorrect to call these cars Lotus 7 by Birkin, it should be called a Birkin S3. She really is in superb order and these cars were recognised as having been built to the highest possible standard.
