This vehicle was purchased by the vendor from a garage in November 2011 with a speedometer reading of 6838 miles. It was still on its original tyres and the condition of the engine bay made it clear to the vendor that it had barely covered any miles. The seller explained to him that the original owner had passed away and his widow left it unused in the garage for around 20 years. Eventually it was sold as part of the general clearance of the estate and the buyer put it aside intending to get it back on the road but never got round to it. The garage purchased it and renewed all hoses and degradable components and had the fuel injection system checked over, new tyres were also fitted.
The vendor has used the car for three long distance charity classic tours and before each event the car was checked over. Work was carried out on the brakes, with a tendency for the hydraulic cylinders to become sticky most of these have now been replaced. Fritz Bitz did a retune and check on the injection system restoring full performance. A new clutch has been fitted because a seal failure oiled up the original one and the fuel tank developed a minor leak and was replaced. A new stainless steel exhaust was also fitted. A small pack a spares which was carried on rallies is included in the sale together with a Haynes Workshop Manual. Bills for all the work carried out are available for inspection. During a rally in 2012 the speedo cable failed and the rally was completed without the speedo operating.
Apart from rallies the vendor has done very little mileage using it for the occasional round the lanes local classic event and it has been registered off the road since June 2016.
The speedometer currently reads 13,730 and the vendor is confident that the maximum mileage it has covered is 20,000 a safe figure because he believes that the speedo was probably out of action for no more than 2000 miles. The vendor intended to compete in another long distance rally this spring but he has had to withdraw due to back problems and therefore has decided to sell.

Auctioneers notes: Although the vendor is sure that the mileage is correct, we feel that there is not enough history to warrant it. Having said that this is outstanding for its age and the 3.0 S Saloon is very rare.
