1994 Caterham Vauxhall None £8500.00 + buyers premium

Description:

This car was originally supplied in March/April 1994 as a factory built race car to the Hyperion Motorsport Race Team paid for by BP Oil and painted in BP green and driven by Steve Parish – at the time he was the ex TT rider and competitor/team mate of Barry Sheene.

About 2002/3 it changed hands and was brought up to full road specification and registered in 2004 – L95 XTC. The current owner purchased it in 2009, and proceeded to turn it into the race car it is today. This work is described below.
The original Caterham Vauxhall engine(180bhp) and (5-speed) gearbox with internal dry sump were removed and will be available to the purchaser by negotiation. A new Vauxhall 16v engine was built with high lift camshafts improved gas flowed cylinder head, Omega pistons, Pace oil pump, new specifically mapped ECU etc. New larger oil cooler and aluminium radiator. External oil filter. When set up on a rolling road power was 210bhp with significant increase in torque. The engine has an electronic rev limiter and can rev to 8000rpm. A new Quaife close ratio 4-speed dog box with sintered racing clutch and aluminium bell housing were fitted. The limited slip differential was overhauled.
Much work took place here. Caterham wide track suspension c/w new high speed steering rack was fitted, Caterham racing ventilated discs, Caterham 4-pot callipers with Pagid pads, new springs, adjustable shock absorbers all round. Adjustable front and rear anti roll bar. Brake bias valve. Larger fuel tank with drain plug to ensure fresh fuel and the correct amount. This tank is big enough to do a 100-mile race or about one and half hours racing dependant of the circuit. Redesigned by starting with a blank dashboard in order to place all instruments logically. Oil pressure, oil temperature and water temperature gauges use capillary senders (not electrical) to ensure accuracy. Removable steering wheel c/w lap timer and stop watch, 6-point Willans Harness. Fire extinguisher plumbing, wiring and satellite receiver for data acquisition and on board cameras.

There are several race series available for this car and of course all hill climbs and sprints in the UK and Europe. This car is eligible for the Classic Sports Car Club’s Magnificent Seven Series where you have 30 minutes qualifying and a forty-minute race which can be shared by two drivers as there is a mandatory pit stop. Check out www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk and the series is sponsored by south coast jewellers Gold Arts. They also have a race weekend at the famous F1 circuit of Spa Franco champs in Belgium, this car was third in class with a 70-year-old driver in 2013 so you are never too old !!!

An MOT station will give the best advice however there are a few things the vendor knows of, it will need lights, a handbrake system (the rear callipers don’t have the facility), and maybe a change of rear discs. Engine oil has always been semi synthetic, brake fluid AP600 racing or its replacement.

This is the car to blow away Ferraris, Porsches, TVRS, Subaru’s etc. with its acceleration and superb handling!

Auctioneers notes: As mentioned above, the original Caterham Vauxhall engine(180bhp) and (5-speed) gearbox with internal dry sump were removed although will be available to the purchaser by negotiation.
