Description:

Description from The Vendor:

‘Pelly’ has been in the same family since new in 1954. The current owner’s great uncle Frank Webb arranged the sale from Henly’s in Bournemouth for a widowed neighbour…but she took a rapid dislike because of it’s size …so he took over ownership in the first month.  When he died in 1964 he left it to his niece, the current owner’s aunt, but it was only used infrequently for family visits and French holidays as the aunt and husband commuted to work in London by tube. It failed the MoT in 1975 because of. worn track rod end and was left in the garage for 18 years whilst replaced by a new DAF and eventually an Escort.  It was offered to the current owner who accepted from nostalgia as it was the first car he remembered riding in…up the Lower Blandford Road into Broadstone at 60mph before there was a speed limit (sitting on the rear armrest aged 7yrs). The current owner has introduced several practical improvements….alternator, radial tyres, stainless exhaust system and all the wheel brake cylinders have been replaced as well as a new clutch, battery, poly steering bushes and spin-on oil filter conversion, but the interior is completely original and the original tools are in the boot.  It had a basic respray in the original colours around 20 years ago.    It comes with a large parcel of paperwork including buff logbook, V5C, MoTs proving the mileage, original receipt, brochure and price list, workshop manual and the script of a Central TV series called ‘Harry’s Mad’ in which it played the villain’s getaway car. It has been in dry storage for 4 years, starts well and ticks over smoothly…but may need minor recommissioning before taking to the road.   Auctioneer’s notes: This car represents a remarkable piece of motoring history having been in the ownership of the same family from new –  see vendors description -.  He has owned her for the last 36 years.  Her file is a treasure trove which includes the original chrome tax disc holder, Ford Motor Company advertising the Zodiac in 1952 in the “Illustrated London News” plus other advertising blurb.  What is useful, you have The Motor road test which gives this car a top speed of 85 MPH, pretty good for a car of 70 years old.  One of these cars won the Monte Carlo Rally outright. In the boot you will find the original seat covers with the original fitting instructions.  As for reading material, there is a Zodiac Repair Manual and a Lub Chart, original sales brochure, stamped Hendy Bros Ltd of Bournemouth, old V5’s and invoices, the original buff log book dated 1954, hand books, instruction books etc etc.  She is a very solid car with original superb interior which includes the two tone leather upholstery. This car is very usable, as is, she certainly turns heads and you will note from the photographs, she retains the original 2 Lucas Flamethrowers Spotlights.  This remarkable car may be viewed strictly by appointment.
