On the Surface: This 1978 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 LWB looks to be a very good example of the long-wheelbase variant of the Series II. This car is finished in Squadron Blue with a Gold pinstripe. The exterior is complemented by an Ivory leather interior, accented with Navy piping. Having been cherished by it’s current owner for the last 10 years, this Daimler has had only 6 owners over its 46-year lifespan.

Maintenance & History: The car comes with an impressive history file, reflecting meticulous care over the years. Included are MOT certificates dating back to 1997, as well as invoices totalling approximately £25,000. Significant expenditure is documented, such as bodywork in 1987 costing £3,180.79 and a major service with MOT in 2007 at £1,537.65. The original Daimler Sovereign Maintenance and Servicing Handbook and ‘Passport to Service’ are present, with 9 stamps indicating services between 1981 (30,128 miles) and 1985 (34,976 miles). The current mileage of 67,163 is supported by both the service and MOT history. This Daimler was originally supplied by Spink Daimler of Bournemouth and therfore has local links.

The Model: The Daimler Sovereign was a nameplate applied by Jaguar Cars to their luxury saloon lineup between 1966 and 1983. This example is from the Series II range, which featured a raised front bumper and shallower grille than the Series I. This example is powered by the larger 4.2 litre XK straight-six engine compared to the other 3.4 litre engine that was available as an option. The long-wheelbase chassis was introduced on the Series II and was later made permanent on the Series III.

Sale Insight: For enthusiasts of British cars or collectors seeking a Daimler Sovereign with a stellar history file, this 1978 4.2 LWB represents a rare opportunity. Its low ownership, extensive documentation mass expenditure lavished upon it make it a standout example.
