Description:In Brief:
On the Surface: This beautiful, restored example of a 1949 Ford Anglia E494A is finished in classic black over a brown interior. This example has been meticulously maintained, showcasing a level of care that is evident in its excellent condition. Maintenance & History: The Anglia underwent a comprehensive restoration around 1980, just four years after it was acquired by the vendor’s late husband. Since then, it has stood the test of time, remaining in impressive condition thanks to the attentive care it received over the years. The car has not been used since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, following the passing of the vendor’s husband in 2021. Despite the lack of use, the car remains a fine example of the model. This particular Anglia has a rich history, having been in the same family for nearly 50 years. The vendor’s late husband became the second owner when he purchased the car in 1976, making it a cherished part of the family ever since. Included with the car is an original buff log book, which shows that the vehicle has had just three owners across two families since new. Also included are valuable documents such as the original Ford Eight and Anglia handbook, the Manufacturer’s Warranty booklet, and the original purchase invoice, detailing its initial sale in 1949 by Mrs. L Cull from Percy Hendy Ltd of Southampton for the sum of £319, 16 shillings, and 8d. The Model: The E494A Anglia was introduced in 1949, featuring a refreshed design from its predecessor, most notably with its 1940s-style front end and sloped, twin-lobed radiator grille. Known for being a spartan vehicle, it was the lowest-priced four-wheel car in Britain at the time. A 1948 test by The Motor magazine revealed that the Anglia could achieve a top speed of 57 mph, accelerate from 0-50 mph in 38.3 seconds, and offered a fuel consumption rate of 36.2 miles per imperial gallon. A total of 108,878 units were produced between 1949 and 1953, with the Anglia continuing as the very basic Ford Popular until 1959. Sale Insight: This Ford Anglia E494A offers a rare opportunity to own a well-preserved, low ownership example. The original documents that are included with the car make it a remarkable find for enthusiasts and collectors alike. |
