On the Surface: This 1975 Ford Capri 1600 XL Auto is finished in its original Sebring Red with a distinctive black vinyl roof and matching interior. Kept by The Vendor since February 2023, this gem has an intriguing history that adds character to it. Stored from 1994 to 2018, it boasts just three registered owners since its first registration in May 1975, with the previous long-term owner acquiring it in 1994 from Mr. Sharpe of Mitcham, who bought the car new in 1975.

Maintenance & History: Since it’s purchase from our Winter Classic Car Auction back in February this Capri has undergone significant work to bring it back to its former glory. It has received a bare metal respray, ensuring the Sebring Red finish is as striking as ever. According to The Vendor, the bodyshop that performed the respray confirmed that there was no rust in the car whatsoever. The car has been fully recommissioned, with all bills present for the extensive work done. Many new parts have been fitted, and it comes with a new MOT valid until March 2025.

Prio to it’s sale and purchase earlier this year the car had been in long-term dry storage. Upon emerging from a dry storage unit in 2018, this Capri initially received some recommissioning work. The front brake calipers, rear wheel cylinders, and rubber hoses for the brakes, radiator, and fuel were replaced. A new-old stock carburetor was fitted, and the exhaust system, water pump, and radiator cap were also renewed. The

This Capri was initially registered to a Main Dealer Ford Garage in 1975, and it later found a home just two months later with the ‘second owner’ Mr. Sharpe of Mitcham, who purchased it as a local shopping car for his wife. Mr. Abramson of Crawley, the long-term owner from 1994 to 2023, a Capri enthusiast and club member, recognised the potential of this low-mileage example. Unfortunately, due to health constraints, he couldn’t fulfill his vision for the car, prompting the reluctant decision to pass it on. The current vendor purchased it in February 2023 and has since invested in its thorough restoration.

The Model: The Capri II was introduced in February 1974 following the 1973 oil crisis. It embraced everyday practicality with a shorter bonnet, larger cabin, and the pioneering adoption of a hatchback rear door—Ford’s first. In the mid-1970s, it stood out for its reliability and a well-evolved design. Engine options ranged from the 1.3-litre to the 3.0-litre ‘Essex’ V6. This example is powered by the 1.6-litre engine generating 71 BHP.

Sale Insight: This one is for collectors as it represents a rare opportunity to own an exceptionally low-mileage MK II Capri. The extensive recent recommissioning and restoration work, including the bare metal respray and the new MOT, has brought it back to fantastic conidtion, offering the new owner a chance at a ‘time-warp’ Capri.
