Ford Cortina 1500 GT Replica MKI with fresh FIA papers!
The Vendor imported this car from Finland, where it had been built for historic rallying but never used, due to the ill health of the owner.  The Vendor’s intention was to prepare it for a particular event, which was then cancelled.  Work started on the car, replacing front strut inserts and top mounts, clutch, starter and solenoid, track rod ends, overhauling the brakes, re-fitting the exhaust system etc. before the project stalled with the cancellation of the event.

The 2-door, left hand drive shell seems extremely solid, with no evidence of rust.  A full rollcage is fitted, with door bars as can be seen in the photos.  The engine is reputed to have been rebuilt in Finland, with a hot cam and twin Webers, and it certainly seems to rev willingly and powerfully.  The paintwork leaves a bit to be desired (unless you like pink and yellow!) and the finish is poor.  The seats and belt (only one currently fitted) are serviceable but out of date.  The car stands on  4 steel wheels with road tyres.  Four minilite-style light alloy wheels fitted with studded tyres are in the boot, along with an MPH speedometer and new front windscreen rubber.

The car is UK-registered as a historic vehicle, with current V5C in the vendor’s name.  It also has a fresh UK FIA Historic Technical Passport (Period F – 1962-65), having been inspected by an FIA technical inspector, who affixed the all-important FIA seal to the rollcage.  This makes it eligible for a wide range of events both in UK and abroad.

Make no mistake – the car will need more work before it can be used competitively, but it is a solid basis to prepare a Mark 1 Cortina for FIA historic rallying or racing.  It is, at this stage, a bit of a ‘blank canvas’.
