Lot No: 70

1972 Ford Escort RS1600 BDA 79,996 (Not Warranted) £50,000 + buyers premium

Description:

Description from The Vendor:

This lovely example of a Mk1 Escort has been in the current vendors possession since January 2017, since which it has covered just over 600 miles.

It was extensively restored by the previous owner, and since it has been in the current owner’s possession,  has had over £5,000 spent on it and it benefits from new seats, new carburettor, fuel pump, brake cylinder and clutch cylinder.

The exterior is in a great condition and being Daytona Yellow, it is a real head  turner!

This time-warp classic is one of the coveted AVO special editions, being number 413 off the production line, and it is an immaculate and exceedingly rare piece of British motoring history.

To complete the history of the vehicle it comes with the original old V5 documents.

Auctioneer’s notes:

This superb example of a rare 1972 Ford Escort Mark 1 1600 BDA has been owned by the vendor for the past 5 years and in that time she has only covered 600 miles – and that is the reason why the vendor is reluctantly selling her –  The engine has had one or two modifications carried out, firstly the cc has been increased to 1700 and she has had high lift BD3 cams fitted.  The flywheel has been lightened and balanced and she has had world cup engine mountings fitted. Moving on from the engine to the suspension, Belstein shock absorbers have been fitted to the rear suspension and you will find that the brakes in the front are servo-assisted disc brakes. It might be of interest to know what BDA stands for, it stands for Belt Drive Assembly.  All this work was carried out before the vendor purchased the car including the total restoration.  The vendor went on further and spent over £5000 to get the car into exactly what he wanted. She is, in my opinion, the best colour “Daytona Yellow” and she has had low ownership for this type of car – 6 owners, including the vendor –  Only 1100 RS 1600 BDA’s were built and this car’s build number is 413.  Going back to the engine, she has the original cast iron block as supplied by the factory when new.  Unfortunately, we are not aware if she had a rolling road test to ascertain the BHP, the standard car produces approximately 115 BHP.  I am not going to guess what she is producing now, except to say according to the vendor she goes like a rocket and she comes on cam at approximately 2750 rpm. She comes with the original Haynes RS and Mexico Workshop Manual.  She really is outstanding, please book your slot for viewing.
