On the Surface: This excellent example of a MK I Ford Focus RS is finished in the only colour the MKI was available in, Imperial Blue. Inside the car is a blue and black Sparco interior. The interior features front bucket seats also a standard for the MK I. Having been under the current owner’s custodianship for the last nine years according to the V5, this car shows 73,104 miles on the odometer, averaging about 3,500 miles per year.

Maintenance & History: The history file of this car is comprehensive, including old MOTs and invoices for parts labour and work amounting to nearly £10,000. It sits on four matching tyres, ensuring balanced performance. Lightly restored in 2020, the car is fitted with a flocked dashboard, though the original dashboard and glove compartment cover are supplied with the vehicle, allowing for a return to its original specification if desired.

The Model: In 2002, Ford launched the highest performance version of the Focus, named the Focus RS. Equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged Duratec RS engine, a Quaife ATB limited-slip differential, AP Racing clutch, and a unique Revo-knuckle front suspension system, this model set new standards for performance hatchbacks. Additionally, it featured Sachs Racing dampers, Brembo brakes and 18” O.Z Racing alloy wheels, all contributing to its aggressive stance and high performance. Engineered by Tickford Engineering and produced in Ford’s Saarlouis plant in Germany, only 4,501 units were made, with this particular example being number 3,840. The Focus RS was developed in the UK and it was exclusively available in Europe, with 2,147 units sold in the UK alone.

Under the bonnet lies a 2.0-litre Duratec DOHC four-cylinder turbocharged engine, enhanced by a four-branch manifold, producing 215 bhp. This powertrain enables the Focus RS to achieve a 0-60mph time of 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 143mph. The Focus RS was a significant leap in performance from the standard Focus, featuring substantial modifications with up to 70% of the base components either updated, re-engineered, or completely redesigned by Tickford Engineering.

Sale Insight: This 2003 Ford Focus RS represents a rare opportunity to own a modern-ish ‘Fast-ford’. With styling the harkens back to early naughties boy racing this car will align with many buyer’s of a certain age we are sure. With it’s low mileage, good history and overall brilliant condition this is certainly not one to miss out on.
