On the Surface: This is a restored example a 1956 Ford Prefect 100E Deluxe. The car is finished in classic black with a charming brown interior. After being laid up for over five decades, this example has undergone recomissioning and restoration to bring it to the condition it can be seen in Today. The Vendor, who has owned the car for the past 2-3 years, has transformed a barn find into a great example of this classic.

Maintenance & History: The car has benefitted from extensive recommissioning and restoration work, including a full respray, an engine rebuild, the installation of a new oil pump, water pump, exhaust system, electrics, brakes, clutch, tyres, and new carpet. Additionally, it has received recent chassis protection treatment. With an MOT valid until August 16, 2025, the car has covered around 2,000 miles under the Vendor’s use in the past year.

The car was purchased by the Vendor from a deceased estate in 2021, this Prefect had been stored away since 1969. It is believed that due to it’s long period in storage the car fell off of  DVLA’s register so when the car was taken out of storage The Vendor attempted to re-register it under its original registrtaion plate with a photocopy of the original logbook, but the car was ultimately issued an age-related plate in 2023 due to DVLA rejecting the photcopied V5. A file of documentation accompanies the car, including MOT certificates dating back to 1968, an original insurance agreement letter from that year, workshop manuals, and invoices amounting to over £4,000 for the restoration.

The Model: The Ford Prefect, produced by Ford UK from 1938 to 1961, was the more upmarket sibling to the Ford Popular and Anglia models. The Prefect 100E, introduced in 1953, stood out with its vertical grille bars and four doors. It was tested in 1957 to have a top speed of 71 mph, with acceleration from 0-60 mph in 32.2 seconds. Of the 100,554 100E Prefects that were made only 982 examples of all Prefect models are currently licensed in the UK, this 100E is a rare find.
