On the Surface: This beautiful 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series II 2+2 FHC is a stunning example of the iconic model, finished in striking Carmen Red over a Cream interior with Red piping. Originally registered in the U.S., this car was imported to the UK on May 12, 2003. It has been well cared for, having had just four owners in the UK, with the current custodian purchasing the car in March 2021. Recently, the car spent some time in warm and sunny Spain, although it was never registered there, which has helped to maintain its fantastic, most probably rust-free, condition.

Maintenance: The car comes with a substantial history file, including MOTs dating back to its UK registration in 2003 and invoices amounting to nearly £40,000 from around 2002. The most recent recorded expenditure was in July 2020, when Willow Triumph of Darlington performed a full check-up and service costing £459.60. Willow Triumph was the primary garage for work completed on this E-Type from 2014 to 2020, with total spending during this period reaching £13,467. At some point this example was converted from LHD, as it was originally supplied, to RHD for use on UK roads.

The Model: The Jaguar E-Type was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd from 1961 to 1974 and is renowned for its exceptional aesthetics, advanced technologies, high performance, and competitive pricing for it’s era, which established it as an icon in the motoring world. Notable for its claimed top speed of 150 mph and sub-7-second 0 to 60 mph acceleration, the E-Type’s largely unitary body construction, front and rear independent suspension with disc brakes, and rack-and-pinion steering set it apart and influenced industry standards. Based on Jaguar’s D-Type racing car, the E-Type boasts a rich heritage, including three consecutive wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans starting in 1955.

The Series II E-Type introduced several design changes, including the removal of glass headlight covers due to U.S. National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration mandates, a wrap-around rear bumper, larger front indicators and tail lights positioned below the bumpers, an enlarged grille, and twin electric fans for improved cooling. In total, 18,809 Series II E-Types were produced, with 5,326 of them being 2+2 models.

Sale Insight: This 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series II 2+2 FHC presents an excellent opportunity for those who are in the market for an E-Type in great condition. It’s documented history and condition only add to it’s desirabilty. With its recent stay in Spain likely ensuring a rust-free condition, this car stands out as a fantastic investment in a classic icon.
