Description:In Brief:
On the Surface: This stunning 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster is an exceptional example, featuring a rare manual gearbox and finished in its original colour scheme of Old English White with a contrasting Black interior. This UK-supplied, right-hand-drive car showcases a fantastic restoration that makes this car one of, if not THE best Series III E-Type we have seen. With just 2 former keepers and under the care of its current owner for the last 37 years, this Series III Roadster remains a superbly presented and preserved classic. Maintenance & History: This example was originally supplied by Gibbons Ltd of Glasgow and first registered on 21st November 1972, this Series III E-Type has been cherished by just two former owners. The current owner, who purchased the car in 1987 from Lewis Motors of Tottenham for £6,000, has since owned the car for over three decades. Unfortunately, the vendor’s late husband, who restored the car, was unable to enjoy the fruits of his labour due to his passing, but the care and dedication put into the car’s restoration is evident in this car’s current condition. Restored to an outstanding standard, this E-Type comes with an impressive history file detailing its restoration. The restoration, ordered and completed by The Vendor’s late husband, includes an engine rebuild, interior retrim and respray (interior and exterior redone in original colour scheme). The car’s restoration records include invoices for parts and labour totalling nearly £7,000, along with valuable documentation such as photos documenting the restoration, a British Leyland Series 3 parts catalogue, a Jaguar V12 Series 3 repair operation manual and a Jaguar-Daimler Heritage Trust Production Record Certifcate that proves the car is a UK RHD example with matching numbers. The Model: The Jaguar E-Type Series III, introduced in 1971, came equipped with a new 5.3-litre V12 engine producing 272 horsepower, paired with four Zenith carburettors. It offered improved performance, including a 0-60 acceleration time of under seven seconds and a top speed of 142 mph. The Series III featured upgraded brakes, standard power steering, and a longer wheelbase, providing a roomier interior. Distinctive design elements like the cross-slatted front grille, flared wheel arches, and quad exhaust tips define the Series III from it’s earlier incarnations. Of the 15,287 Series III E-Types produced, only 7,990 were roadsters with even fewer being manual making this example all the more special. Sale Insight: This Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 Roadster is a rare and highly desirable collector’s car, boasting a remarkable history and an outstanding level of restoration. With matching numbers and a rare manual transmission, it’s condition make it an attractive opportunity for buyers and collectors. The detailed history file, including restoration photos and invoices, adds to the car’s provenance, ensuring it will be a prized addition to any collection. Whether driven or displayed, this beautiful E-Type offers a timeless blend of power, elegance, and rarity. |
