On the Surface: This is an absolutley stunning example of the ever-likeable Mk II Jaguar, this 1962 model is finished in the eye-catching Opalescent Silver Blue over a Navy Blue interior. This example is powered by the more desirable 3.4-litre straight-six model with a manual gearbox and overdrive, ensuring an engaging driving experience. Originally distributed in Bulawayo, Rhodesia, in July 1962, it stayed there for the first 18 years. It was then purchased and taken to Southern Ireland, where it underwent significant work, including a respray, the installation of a stainless steel exhaust, and wire wheels. The car’s original color was Cotswold Blue over a light blue interior.

Maintenance & History: Owned by The Vendor for the last 9 years, the car was purchased from our 2015 Winter Classic Car Auction and registered in the UK for the first time in March 2015. Since then, The Vendor has committed to a programme of yearly winter improvements, spending around £30,000 on various upgrades and maintenance. Significant work includes a new fuel tank and fuel pump, new brake and fuel pipework, new clutch, master cylinder, and clutch plate, new engine core plugs, an electric fan and new core for the radiator, new 4-pot brakes all around, refreshed woodwork, resealing with Waxoyl underneath, copper paint inside, new soundproofing under the carpet, new seals, and respraying the front bottom half of the wheels to match. The car has always been kept undercover in The Vendor’s ownership and placed in a Carcoon during the winter months, maintained on trickle charge.

This Mk II Jaguar comes with an extensive history file, including the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, invoices amounting to over £40,000 over the car’s lifetime, with around £30,000 spent during The Vendor’s ownership alone. The history file includes photos of the respray and other work carried out since 2017, old MOTs, and various other interesting pieces of paperwork. The level of maintenance and care is a testament to The Vendor’s dedication over the past 9 years.

The Model: The Jaguar Mk II was produced as a mid-sized luxury sports saloon between late 1959 to 1967 by Jaguar. Known for its combination of grace, space, and pace in line with  Sir William Lyons’ 1950s advertising slogan. This example is fitted with Jaguar’s finest XK engine block, the 3.4-litre straight-six. Producing 210 BHP, a top speed of 120 MPH, and a 0-60 time of 11.9 seconds, this engine was considered quite impressive in the 1960s. The power is driven through a manual gearbox, making this example not only fast but also highly enjoyable to drive.

Sale Insight: Sadly, due to ill health, The Vendor must now sell his much-cherished Mk II. Any prospective buyer will need to examine the extensive history file to appreciate the eye-watering level of expenditure and care that has been committed to this vehicle by The Vendor and previous owners. This stunning and very well maintained Mk II Jaguar offers a unique opportunity to own a beautifully preserved classic with a rich history and outstanding performance.
