Jaguar XK8 Auto 1997

Description from The Vendor:

First supplied by Dutton-Forshaw Jaguar, Newcastle Upon Tyne to Cussin’s Property Group PLC on 21/08/1997.  Chassis number 18400.  R670 GRG was serviced and maintained by Dutton-Forshaw at Jaguar House for the first 6 years with service stamps averaging 10,000 miles per annum.  On its last service with them in July 2003, totalled 57,000 miles in their care.  During the first few years, I’m led to believe is 1999/2000, Jaguar recalled the engines on the XK8 due to a cylinder lining fault with Nikasil.  Jaguar replaced the engine and there is a plate and serial number on the side of the engine.  I am not sure when this was replaced but ultimately the engines mileage is less than the odometer.

On 4^th May 2005, the car was sold at auction by Manheim Auctions for £12,500 with an odometer reading 68,578 to Mr Lambert of Kinross.  At 69,231 had three wheel hub bearings replaced.  It was declared SORN 30^th Oct 2008.  Later 2008, ownership passed to Mr Monnoch and stayed in Scotland.  In 2010, Mr Boulton of Kilmarnoch owned the vehicle and had various works carried out at Parks Jaguar in Ayr at 76,411 miles.

On MOT 8/4/2011, the odometer read 76512 and the car found its way down to Bedford where it was serviced, changing hands several times and accrued some 3,500 miles over 4 years.  Mr Hemming of Bristol then traded his VW for the Prestige Jaguar in Oct 2014.  He had various works carried out which included a new Alternator at 80,075 miles.  The Jaguar then found a new home at a Jaguar Specialist where it sat for several years and had some life breathed back into it by way of new floorplans each side which were treated and undersealed.  Underside brake lines and braided hoses were also replaced.  It was then serviced by them at 80,771 miles.

I the current owner, Mr R Gregory, purchased the Jaguar on 13/3/2021.  Planning on keeping the Jaguar as a future investment and as a classic car owner and enthusiast, I had various works carried out so I could enjoy the car in years to come.  I had even showed the car in the summer at the annual Jaguar Show where it received a lot of attention due to its beautiful Antigua Blue finish and sleek lines holding its own between E types, Xk150’s and other classic models.

In December 2021, I had various works carried out by a well known Jaguar Specialist at Island Classics with over 40 years experience.  The car has just received a new timing chain kit, serpentine belt, water pump, both head gaskets with skimmed cylinder heads together with new head bolts.  A complete full service including new air/oil/fuel filters, spark plugs, antifreeze and an engine flush.  Although the gearbox is a sealed unit, I followed advice and had the Auto gearbox and filter changed with new gasket.  Mileage 81,648.   Total invoice including the invaluable specialist knowledge totalled £2,213.48.

I did enhance the front of the car with a Stainless Steel wire mesh grille which is likened to the XKR model.  I have retained the chrome bar which can easily be swapped back for originality.  The car is also sporting a set of ‘Aris’ alloy wheels with new tyres covering only 500 miles.  The plan was to put the original alloys back on after the had been reconditioned as looked a little tired.  All 4 original alloys are included in the sale which have already been prepped by fine blasting and primed ready for high build prime and silver spray finish.

To give the new buyer ‘piece of mind’, I have had a new MOT at the point of submitting for auction taking it to February 2023.  The car also has x2 keys and a working order central locking alarm fob.

Since having the car back in January 2022, I have covered approximately 500 miles but due to personal circumstances changing, I am now selling this very ‘uptogether’ Jaguar XK8 for someone else to cherish and enjoy, for what I am sure will become a classic in British Motoring History.
