Description from The Vendor:

In 2011 it was driven from UK to Spain by the husband of a friend of mine.  Not being of a `mechanical` nature he did not notice any problems until the car came to a halt.  He called roadside assistance and her insurance company and the car was taken to a garage in Lodeve.  However, they could not get it to do more than about 20 miles/ hour and so the insurance company decided to write it off as not financially viable to return it to UK and repair.  My friend was attached to the car and bought it from the insurance company.

A week later we drove to Lodeve and managed to coax it on to Spain where the local Mazda dealer could not find the fault nor a couple of other garages.  My friend, by then thoroughly fed-up of it, offered it to me in exchange for a bottle of wine.  I accepted and we took it to my local garage where they were keen to have a go.  At first they had no more luck than the others, then, just when packing up for the night the mechanic heard the sound of a drip and after that they were able to fix the problem (and had a fine time testing it on the road!)  After that we let them loose on tidying up any other problems and a respray.  Since then it has hardly been used and has spent most of the time garaged apart from an occasional outing for its health and wellbeing.

We were always going to drive it back to UK for testing but old age crept up and nowadays I find it hard to get in and out of and, having returned to UK to live, find that we just do not have room for it.   I drove it back to England the first week of October and was pleasantly surprised at how well it went.  I was trying to give it an easy time because of it`s age but found I had to hold it back.  We had bad weather one afternoon on the trip and the lights and wipers worked very well, and the road holding throughout was excellent.  The fuel consumption was comparable with our previous trip, two weeks before, in the Mercedes C220 sport.

Auctioneer’s notes:

This car has come to market due to The Vendor being reduced to having just one car parking space. This car was subject to a CAT C insurance total loss in 2009. She has spent the last 3-4 weeks in The South of France but she has now come to auction. The car is a reasonable example and would be perfect for anybody looking for a bit of fun.
