Description:

Description from The Vendor:

This car belonged to my father, who sadly passed away earlier this year. He bought the car as a reward to himself on his retirement. It was by far the best car that he had ever owned and was treated accordingly, being kept for example in a dry garage for the full duration of his ownership and very regularly serviced. It was only used occasionally, such as for visits to the golf club and trips away, as he and my mother had another car for general use.
My father purchased the car in June 1991 from Caffyns, which was the Salisbury Mercedes dealership at the time. There had been one previous owner. My father had a strong attachment to the car and when he was unable to drive the car it sat unused in his garage, where it remained for over 7 years. After some minor work at the end of last year to get the car running again, such as inflating the tyres and replacing the battery, we submitted the car for an MOT at the local garage (which was a repeat of the last journey the car had taken some 7 years earlier). The car passed the MOT after just the replacement of the brake fluid and a perished fuel pipe. The car then remained unused until recently when a local classic car specialist carried out a service for us.
My father kept a lot of documentation for the car. From these we have been able to assemble a comprehensive history dating back to when the car was new. This is summarised in a document enclosed in the black ring binder supplied with the car, along with all the referenced documents.
The car really is in exceptional original condition.
Car details:
Registered late 1988, but it is the 1989 ‘facelift’ model.
Recorded mileage: 75,867 miles
Engine: 1997cc petrol
Gearbox: 5-speed manual
Paintwork colour: Artic White
Interior: grey cloth
Central locking
Tinted windows
Factory fitted sunroof
Original alloy wheels
Blaupunkt radio
Please note that this is the carburettor version and not the fuel injection 190E model.
The car comes complete with the original owner’s handbook, maintenance booklet, Mercedes tool kit/tool roll, original first aid kit, warning triangle and original spare keys (including copies of the aerial key). The jack looks unused. The locking wheel nut key is in a box in the boot.
Please note that I have found that the boot closes most easily if press on the right-hand side when closing.

Auctioneer’s notes:

1988 Mercedes Benz 190

Sadly, this is an executor sale and the deceased owned her for 31 years, in total she has only had 2 owners.  There is a very comprehensive account of the history of the car by the executor, which you will find online.  With the car, there is a very smart A4 Binder which has everything in its right order, and please note that the number plate,  which is MBZ 1509.  This lovely car comes with a sunroof, 5-speed manual gearbox, and is in very usable condition and this is the 2 litre model and she has only covered 75,867 miles from new. The interior is in remarkably good condition.  May be viewed, strictly by appointment.
