Mercedes 230 1979

Description:

This 230E was sourced by the vendor’s husbands’ colleagues at HQ AFCENT in 1991 as their family car had been written off. It was purchased from a German Colonel and then found to have a cylinder head gasket problem. The vendor’s husbands’ German colleague was very annoyed about this and ensured that the original owner paid the garage for the repair. The vendor tells us the garage owner was a Dutch gentleman was called MR Woudenburg and his garage was in Bingelrade and it is still there.
The car was then used as their family car in Germany and Holland until 1993 and in that time it visited Italy, France, Switzerland, often pulling a caravan! Shortly after the Berlin wall came down it visited Eastern Germany, Poland Colditz/ Checkoslovakia.
Since returning to UK in 1993 it has hardly done any mileage. It was used for the couple’s daughters’ weddings in 2002 ,2007 & 2014 (Great car for taking big dresses!) It also went to France to pick up the wine for the weddings!
Sadly the vendor’s husband was unable to drive for the past few years and she felt she could not sell it before he died as it would have upset him. He loved someone starting it up and giving the grandsons a ride in the driveway. The children gave it a nickname ” Jonah” as in the big white whale.
The vendor tells us she is sad to see it go but with the passing of her husband it needs to be used.

It has been garaged in a dry modern garage for the past 20 years and has been SORNED since 2015. It has had a repray and some welding. Spec includes a manual sun roof and the original blue material upholstery.
