On the Surface: This 1976 MG Midget 1500 presents as a charming example of an iconic British sports car. Finished in Teal Blue, it features a black tonneau soft top and a matching black interior. Originally equipped with rubber bumpers, this Midget has been converted to the chrome bumpers. Maintenance & History: Under the care of the current vendor, a skilled engineer who has owned the car for the last nine years, this MG Midget has undergone extensive refurbishment. The work included a full strip-down to the main body, with rusted metal replaced and professionally welded with steel. The car received a fresh respray in Teal Blue, along with a meticulous rebuild that included servicing all parts, replacing the clutch and thrust bearing, and upgrading from 1 1/4″ to 1 1/2″ carburetors. A top-end engine rebuild was performed, along with the installation of a new fuel tank, wheels, tyres, and replacement of most rubber components. Since its restoration, the car has covered just 1,337 miles, primarily on classic vehicle runs. The car’s provenance includes ownership by the current vendor since 2015, following long-term ownership by the previous keeper from 1998 to 2015. The history file includes MOT records dating back to 1990. The Model: The MG Midget 1500 Mk IV, produced from 1974 to 1980, brought notable updates to meet US regulations. Among these were the introduction of rubber bumpers (later swapped for chrome in this example) and an increased ride height to comply with US federal regulations. Powered by the 1493cc Standard SC engine from the Triumph Spitfire, paired with a modified Morris Marina four-speed synchromesh gearbox.
