1934 MG PA 899 (Not Warranted) £20,000.00 + buyers premium

Description:

Car 2 of 4 – Probate sale

This is an example of a very fine MGPA 2-seater sports.   The PA   and   PB’s were the last of the o.h.c. engines until the belated MGA twin cam was produced years later.  This car was sold to FL.Lft. Newell in 1934.  Incredibly the history file has copies of all invoices and correspondence including the original bill of sale between the owner, the factory and the supplying agent.  There are over 40 pages.  Like the TA this car went over the USA after the war and the V5C shows it was re-registered in the UK on 16.10.97 to Mr. Cherrett.  Although the MG Car Club have it shown on their records owned by a Dr. Brown-Kelly in 1987.  The file also includes pages and pages of handwritten notes by the late Mr. C. together with a large file of invoices etc. This car can be viewed from now, by appointment.

Auctioneers notes: We have decided to sell the probate cars as non-runners,  We found these cars in a barn-like building covered with sheets etc.  It is obvious that they have been used up to 2015 judging by the tax discs.  I would suggest a small amount of re-commissioning should be the order of the day and hopefully you will be very impressed with these cars when you view them.

N.B. The late Mr. Cherrett was an aero-nautical engineer and loved nothing more than taking a car apart, improving, it and putting it back together.  He was also quite a character and had novel ideas to prevent theft of his vehicles, such as, the Lagonda had the steering column detached from the dash board, which meant that the steering wheel rested on the floor, his thinking was that it would be very difficult for thieves to take the car.  We have attached the column to the dash board to enable us to move the car, but please, the buyer of this car must check that the work we did was done correctly and also check the steering box, he might have loosened that.
