Description:In Brief:
On the Surface: This is lovely 1937 MG TA. Finished in Primrose Yellow with Tan wet-weather gear and a Deep Red interior, it has been cared for by The Vendor for the past 34 years. The car comes equipped with the hood, hood cover, side screens, and tonneau cockpit cover. Maintenance & History: This MG TA has had just three owners over its 87-year lifespan, with The Vendor having owned it since 1990, purchasing it from another auctioneer. Included is a fantastic history file featuring the original buff logbook, the auction catalogue listing insert from when the Vendor acquired it, and invoices for parts and servicing. The total amount spent over the years on file comes to approximately £10,000. With such a rich and well-documented history, this MG TA stands as a cherished example. This TA has been diligently maintained by a local mechanic who is an enthusiast himself. The car has always been garaged, ensuring it remains in top condition. In November 2023, the car underwent significant restoration work, including a complete dismantling, sandblasting, and stripping to bare metal. It was fully repainted, with all rusty parts sandblasted and refreshed, and every bolt replaced with zinc-plated or stainless-steel alternatives. Red brake drums add a nice finishing touch. The work, totaling £6,120, was performed by Charlie’s Bodyshop in St Blazey, Cornwall. The Model: The MG TA was introduced in 1936 to replace the PB model. Featuring a steel body over an ash frame, it offers a two-seat open design with a bench-type seat and a storage area behind. Capable of reaching speeds close to 80 mph and with a 0–60 mph time of 23.1 seconds, it was a sprightly performer in its day. 3,003 MG TA Midgets were produced between 1936 and 1939. This particular model has been upgraded with the later XPAG 1250cc engine, which was used in the subsequent MG TB. Sale Insight: The Vendor is reluctantly selling this well-loved MG TA due to health reasons. This is an excellent opportunity to own a piece of pre-war motoring history, with documented history and low ownership. |
