Morgan Plus 8 1982

Description:

Owned by the vendors late husband since 1997. Originally green, this Morgan plus 8 was totally dismantled and resprayed to change the colour to Mercedes Designo Purple. It was understood that a previous owner had hill climbed and/ or sprinted the car hence the Safety Devices roll bar which was colour coded purple at the time of the colour change. At roughly 96,000 miles the original 3.5 litre Rover V8 normally aspirated through twin Stromberg carbs engine was rebuilt by a then Morgan service agent who had apparently served an apprenticeship building Ferrari engines. He “blueprinted” and balanced the engine. It is not certain whether the previous owner had fitted fast road cams or if the rebuild included the fast road cams.
Starting the car still involves a manual choke located under the dash by the steering column, other controls there include the heater control switch and a shielded cooling fan override switch. the gearbox is an all synchromesh 5 speed manual.
Parts of the nearside ash frame were replaced 3 or 4 years ago including the door sill and hinge post. Many parts have been replaced with after market stainless steel items to improve the look, durability and in more cases functionality.
The car has been regularly mechanically maintained by the local garage in Frampton with recent attention including the fitting of new Librands exhaust manifolds and pipes back as far as the silencer boxes.
As the owner advanced in years this plus 8 was fitted with EZ electric power steering by the UK agent in Dawlish, Devon. The fly-off handbrake was modified with the addition of another Morgan owner’s designed modification, the seats re-positioned and an offset steering wheel fitted to give greater ease of access, these modifications are easily reversible.

Additional info: Mr Andreas Admou rebuilt the engine to fast road spec which included a crane cam, blue printed cylinder heads ported and polished, uprated oil pump, steel timing gears and as stated in the write up the carburettors are not Stromberg, they are SU carbs. He estimates that the BHP is roughly 210 and is happy to talk the purchaser of this car through the work he carried out. As with all V8 Morgans, she is fitted with a LSD.
