On the Surface: This 1935 Morris 8 Series 1 Four-Seater Tourer is a remarkably rare and sought-after classic, known to be one of only 40 surviving examples know to the Morris Register. Restored around 20 years ago, this matching-numbers car is presents in great condition cosmetically. This open tourer is also complete with a functional hood and side screens that are both in good condition.

Maintenance & History: The car has seen minimal use since its restoration at the turn of the millennium, having been dry-stored for much of its recent life. The history file includes MOT certificates dating back to 1988 and various invoices including one for 4 new tyres in May 2023. Built between 2-3 April in 1935, this home-market car was first registered as “WD 9598” on the 15th of Apil 1935. The accompanying Heritage Certificate and continuation logbook from 1962 trace its ownership history until 1971. The car’s provenance is further supported by a collection of Morris Register newsletters and a spare parts list, reflecting its long-standing connection to enthusiasts and collectors.

The Model: The Morris 8 Series 1 was a pivotal model for Morris Motors, blending affordability with practicality and charm. The four-seater tourer, like this example, offered an open-air driving experience with a top speed of 58 mph. Of the 164,000 Morris 8s produced, only 24,000 were tourers, making this car a rare find indeed. Its simple yet effective engineering—powered by a 918cc, four-cylinder side-valve engine producing 23.5 bhp, paired with a three-speed manual gearbox equipped with hydraulic brakes—was advanced for its time.

Sale Insight: Purchased on a whim by The Vendor in March 2023 for £9,838.40, this Morris 8 has since seen minimal use, largely residing in dry storage. With its comprehensive history, matching numbers, and rare tourer configuration, it presents a compelling opportunity for collectors or enthusiasts seeking a well-preserved example of pre-war British motoring.
