Description:In Brief:
On the Surface: This a great example of a Pre-war car, A Series 1 1935 Morris Eight Saloon. Finished in a very smart Black over Green exterior complemented by a Green interior. It’s a visual treat, especially with the rear-mounted picnic basket, a charming nod to the past. Maintenance & History: The Vendor has owned this Morris Eight for the past 8 years, acquiring it for £9,600 from our Summer Classic Car Auction in 2016. Under his care, the vehicle has undergone a recent full professional rewiring. First registered in Merseyside in 1935, this Morris 8 Saloon boasts a rich history. It has had 7 recorded owners over its 90-year lifespan. A former owner, an official of the Morris Register, restored the car to its original condition, a feat celebrated in a club magazine article. Post-restoration, the car served as an exhibit in a motor museum for several years. It has also participated in the London to Brighton classic car run during the 1990s. The vehicle comes with an extensive history file, including detailed ownership records, a current V5 registration document, previous V5 documents, a possibly original Morris Eight operation manual, a comprehensive collection of invoices for parts and work completed, an original Morris 8 brochure and Morris 8 Owner’s Club magazines. The Model: The Morris Eight, produced from 1935 to 1948 by Morris Motors, was a small family car inspired by the Ford Model Y’s popularity. The Series 1, produced from 1935 to 1937, features a 918 cc four-cylinder side-valve engine with a three-bearing crankshaft and a single SU carburettor, delivering 23.5 bhp. It has a three-speed gearbox with synchromesh on the top two speeds. Compared to its contemporaries like the Austin 7, the Morris Eight was well-equipped with modern features such as a full set of instruments, hydraulically operated drum brakes and an electric windscreen wiper. Sale Insight: This well kept and historically rich 1935 Morris Eight Saloon represents a rare opportunity to own a very useable pre-war car. It’s comprehensive documentation, coupled with careful preservation, makes it an attractive prospect for collectors and enthusiasts of pre-war examples or the Morris marque. |
