Morris Mini Minor 1959

Description:

This very early Mini has the date of build as 23-25 September 1959 (British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate) and was only the 1,876th Morris Mini Minor built according to the Chassis Number. It was sold by the Charles G.S Buist Car dealership of Newcastle and Middlesbrough on the 10th October 1959 and has a metal tag under the bonnet to signify this. The registry document shows the vendor as only the 3rd owner of this car but there was another owner listed in the documentation during the 60’s. It was purchased by Mr McPhilips 15th June 1974 and he owned the car for an incredible 40 years before he passed away. During his ownership it looks like the car was off the road for various periods as the tax records only show 6 months tax in 1988, 12 months in 1998 and then 12 months in 2015. It was then owned by Mr Burgess his son in law who owned it for only 12 months when the vendor purchased the vehicle.
Apart from being a very early 1959 Mini, what makes this unrestored Mini special is the originality with the original engine, gearbox, interior, doors with correct single whole dated glass, window wiper motor, four blade fan as well as numerous other original features (Please see 1959MiniRegister.com for more information). Being a pre-October 1959, it has the large flat recessed floorpans which were later modified to prevent leaks. Lastly, it comes with the original glass washer bottle which is a rare and valuable item selling from £500 upwards online.

We are delighted to be able to offer this unique Mini in our July Classic Sale.  The first Mini’s came off the production line in the late spring of ’59 and only a handful were built each week until the press release to launch the car which read “car of the future” and that was on the 18^th of August ’59.  The car we have was built  between the 23 – 25 September ’59  – May be viewed by appointment.
