1966 Morris Mini Cooper 39,794 (Not Warranted) £15,500 - £17,500

Description:

Description from The Vendor:

Here is a very genuine Mk1 Morris Mini Cooper in its original tweed grey with white roof, and two-tone grey interior.

Built and dispatched in December 1965 and registered new by Caffyns of Tonbridge in January ’66.

It has only had 5 registered keepers from new.

Originally belonging to two sisters and registered as 245WKT, in the 1980s ownership passed to a couple who enjoyed it for many years. Then in 2012 it was sold to a mini enthusiast who began a series of modifications to make it a bit of a tearaway!

It has various upgrades including a 5 speed gearbox, brake Servo, Cooper ‘S’ 7.5″ drilled discs, 4 pot ally calipers, Mintex pads, rear Minifins, 4.75″x10″ Mini Spares rose petal wheels (including the spare), rev counter, period reversing lamp, folding sunroof and period roof rack.

Raven Racing undertook various works:

The 998cc cooper engine was rebuilt with Hepolite pistons, ported and polished 12G295 head, Piper 255 X-drilled billet camshaft, balanced crank, flywheel and backplate, and a rebuilt Mini Spares 5 speed gearbox. An oil cooler is fitted and a diagonal brace. The mini retains its hydrolastic suspension, and has additional front Koni shocks fitted. It stops on a dime thanks to the upgraded servo assisted brakes, and handles very well.

The interesting history file includes the V5C, Heritage certificate, 27 old MOTs (including current to August 2022), mini cooper handbook, and several pictures of the car over the years. There are also numerous bills for much of the detailed maintenance and upgrades.

In delightfully patinated condition, with a current MOT and no advisories.

A reluctant sale but it just hasn’t been getting any use lately.

Auctioneer’s notes:

This is a very interesting Mark 1 Cooper and the reason it is carrying a roof rack is that when these cars are rallied they carry their spare wheel on the roof rack. This car sounds, specification wise, exactly like the car I autocrossed and rallycrossed in the sixties.  I gather, the red line on the rev counter is set at 7000 and with that camshaft it will be a little lumpy under 3000 revs but it will pull like a train over that.  The vendor has given a very full and detailed description and all I am going to add is “come and book a slot to view this cracking car”!
