Description:In Brief:
On the Surface: This is a nice example of a 1968 Renault Caravelle, finished in eye-catching Bronze over a retrimmed Black leather interior. The soft top hood is tucked neatly beneath the removable hardtop. Maintenance & History: Purchased by The Vendor in July 2019 at our Summer Classic Car Auction, this Caravelle comes with a great history file including invoices amounting to around £4,000, old MOT certificates and La Renault owners club magazines. This Caravelle has been meticulously maintained, with significant work carried out in recent years. Between 2016–2018, the interior was fully retrimmed, while October 2018 saw the addition of polished stainless steel bumpers at a cost of £800. A new fuel tank sender unit and door handles were fitted in 2019. In October 2024, extensive mechanical work included new front and rear discs, brake pipe replacement, caliper servicing, and repairs to the brake/clutch fulcrum bar and brake pedal return mechanism at a cost of £2,647.78. The Model: The Renault Caravelle, designed by Pietro Frua of Carrozzeria Ghia, was manufactured from 1958–1968. It features a rear-engine, rear-drive layout, and this example is powered by the later 1108 cc inline-four engine paired with a 4-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. Designed for versatility, the Caravelle was offered as a 2+2 coupé, cabriolet, and convertible — the latter being a cabriolet with a removable hardtop, as seen in this example. Sale Insight: A nice example with a good history file which includes evidence of recent maintenance. Any buyer looking for a Caravelle at sub £10,000 should point their eyes this way! |
