Description:In Brief:
On the Surface: We are happy to offer this Mark 2 Phase 1 Renaultsport Clio 172 in our upcoming Autumn Classic Car Auction. A modern classic, this Clio is perfect for those looking to make their first step into classic car ownership. It is finished in Titanium Silver and complemented by a Navy half-leather, half-Alcantara interior. It comes equipped with it’s original 15-inch OZ F1 alloy wheels and presents itself in overall excellent condition. Maintenance & History: This Clio comes with a good history file, which includes MOT certificates, invoices totaling nearly £2,000, and the original Renault bookpack which holds the Driver’s Handbook, Renault dealership directory (‘The Network’), User Manual, audio system handbook, and the service book. The service book contains three stamps, covering services completed between 2002 at 12,012 miles and 2005 at 32,892 miles. Currently, the vehicle’s mileage stands at 76,523 miles from new, verified by its service history and MOT records. The original steering wheel has been replaced with an OMP wheel, but the original remains in the boot along with the original Renault toolkit and several other spare parts. This example has been lovingly owned by The Vendor for the past 12 years and is only the second owner, with the first owner having possession of the car between 2000 and 2012. The Model: In 1999, Renault presented the first officially branded Renaultsport Clio. The Clio 172, based on the Clio II three-door shell, it was a significant upgrade over the standard car, with features such as wider arches, restyled bumpers, side skirts, and 15-inch OZ F1 alloy wheels. Power comes from a modified 2.0-litre, 16-valve inline-4 engine, delivering 172 BHP at 6,250 RPM, propelling the car from 0-60 mph in just 6.6 seconds. The 172’s interior also stood out, with Renaultsport-embossed half-leather, half-Alcantara seats featuring side-impact airbags. Upon its UK release in January 2000, this model was exclusively available in 647 Titanium Silver, just like this particular example. Sale Insight: Renaultsport models have become highly collectible, especially with the discontinuation of all RS vehicles. The MK2 PH1 Clio 172, being one of the early examples of the Renaultsport Clio, now represents a desirable collectors piece. With its performance-oriented engineering and distinctive styling this pocket rocket is an ideal modern classic for any enthusiast looking to start their journey in classic car ownership. |
