The Model: The Riley Elf, closely related to the Wolseley Hornet and traditional British Mini, was designed as a more luxurious and upmarket version of the Mini. Initially equipped with an 848 cc engine, it switched to a single carburettor version of the Mini Cooper’s 998 cc power unit in 1963. The Mk III facelift in 1966 introduced significant updates, including wind-up windows, fresh-air fascia vents, disk brakes replacing front drum brakes, concealed door hinges, and an updated gear selecting mechanism. Automatic transmission was available starting in 1967, and full 4-synchromesh was introduced in 1968. After a production of 30,912 the Riley Elf ceased in late 1969, following the decision by British Leyland to discontinue the Riley brand. Of those 30,000 cars built just 420 remain registered for use on UK roads Today.
