Description:

Description from The Vendor:

This is an original and now quite rare Grinnall conversion of a TR7 Roadster. The modification was done early in the 1990’s at a cost of £20,000. The body was completely renovated and fitted with the Grinnall stage 2 steel body conversion comprising wider arched steel sills and strengthening. The car has been garaged ever since so is rot free and very solid underneath. The engine is 3.5 litre V8 SDI VITESSE, lightened and balanced with a lightened steel flywheel, oil cooler, Kent hydraulic camshaft with teflon cam buttons, competition lifters and a high capacity radiator. The carburettor is a modern Edelbrock on a new John Wolfe racing twin plenum manifold fitted by the previous owner to provide economy, reliability as well as performance.

This combination produces an excellent cruising car with the 5 speed gearbox. The car has the rare and genuine TR8 power steering and rack. Last year the car was taken to Lloyds Rover V8 Specialists for a rolling road tune which transformed its performance and economy producing 194bhp and easily passed MOT. The running gear is from the Rover SD1 having a Wide track SDl diff unit with uprated torque tube and propshaft.

Brakes at the front are four-pot calipers and vented discs, TR8 spec servo, rear SDI drums.

Suspension is wide track TR8 spec, KYB front and rear, anti-dive kit with bigger anti-roll bar. All of these improvements by Grinnall produce a comfortable ride with flat roll free cornering.

Body as mentioned is Grinnall type 2 body styling with extended steel arches and sills giving extra width.

Under the current owners time the car has had a new SS exhaust system and a new set of wheels and tyres which have covered less than 100 miles.

The current owner obtained a British Heritage certificate confirming the vehicle was produced in May 1980 so the car now is registered as HISTORIC STATUS which means it is tax free and MOT exempt. For provenance the vehicle has been authenticated through the TR register as a genuine Grinnall car with a TR Register confirmation from Mr Phil Horsley.

This has been a well looked after vehicle that will provide much pleasure to its next owner and offer the opportunity to join the various Triumph clubs and groups.

A genuine, original owner’s manual, a tool kit and a nice binder containing receipts and the history behind the Grinnall car and 2 sets of keys are included with the vehicle. Insurance write off in 1988 prior to being rebuilt by Grinnall in the 1990’s.

Auctioneer’s notes:

This fantastic car is a genuine GRINNALL V8 Conversion producing approximately 200 BHP.  The conversion cost £20,000 in 1990. The history file is large and very informative, it contains information and specifications about the company – see appendix 1  – for the specification of this car.  The BMIH Certificate confirms that she is a original home market TR7 Convertible and there is a certificate from the Grinnall  section of the TR Register, signed by Phil Horsley, Secretary – appendix 2 – this shows that she is a genuine Grinnall car, as there are a number of fakes out there.  In the file you will also find spare keys, TR Bookpack, with service book and handbook and a good number of invoices.  THIS CAR IS VERY SPECIAL and may be viewed, strictly by appointment
