On the Surface: This stunning example of a Triumph GT Thunderbird motorcycle is finished in a sleek Grey. Maintenance & History: The current registered keeper has owned the motorcycle for the last five years, as stated in the V5C. The V5C also reveals that this bike has had just four owners in its 65-year history. The odometer reads 25,501 miles, which could be correct, though we lack the necessary paperwork and history to confirm this. The Model: The Triumph Thunderbird is a classic British motorcycle that was first introduced by Triumph in 1949 and was produced in various forms until 1966. Designed to capture the American market, the 6T Thunderbird featured a variant of the earlier Speed Twin’s parallel twin engine, which was bored out from 500cc to 650cc to meet the demand for more horsepower in The States. The Thunderbird name and its iconic ‘paper dart’ logo were conceived by managing director Edward Turner during one of his visits to Triumph’s US operations. The 6T Thunderbird was launched at Montlhéry near Paris, where three standard-production bikes achieved an average speed of 92 mph over 500 miles, highlighting the model’s performance.
