1973 | Triumph | Stag | 101,446 (Not Warranted) | £5,500 + buyers premium | |
Description:Description from The Vendor: This is a 1973 Triumph Stag, manual with overdrive, and presents well with good paintwork and excellent chrome. She drives very well and has made a number of trips to both Goodwood Revival and Classic Le Mans, the latter in temperatures of 28-32 degrees and showed no signs of overheating at all. Cruising at 75mph on the French autoroute was a pleasure. The car is however a bit of a mixed bag. Mechanically she is in excellent condition having had an engine re-build in November 2015, prior to my ownership. There is an extensive history file documenting the significant work the car had done and this is all in the file. Shortly after I bought the car in 2017 the gearbox failed. I had RevingtonTR rebuild the gearbox and overdrive, and replace both head gaskets. In addition they went through the engine ensuring everything was as it should be. The engine is the original Triumph V8, sounds exactly as it should and runs extremely smoothly. There are no overheating problems as the cooling system and block were cleaned through and overhauled with new super grill rad, new hoses, new fan and viscous coupling. The history is fully documented with supporting receipts. On the flip side there is some welding needed to solve some issues that had been caused prior to my ownership. Both sills need to be removed as they were put in place on poorly prepared surfaces, are not correctly located and there are some gaps between the two surfaces underneath. In addition the inside of the n/s front wheel arch has been welded up/filled incorrectly. The drivers seat belt anchor is also mounted on potentially an inadequate.
Auctioneer’s notes: The Vendor has been the custodian of this very presentable Triumph Stag since 2017 which retains the correct V8 engine. The Vendor has given a very candid description of his car and that should be applauded. The large history file goes back to 1995 and in June ’17 you will find an invoice for a mechanical overhaul for £6027 which includes a rebuild of the gearbox. At the same time, the heads were taken off “and 2 extra thick head gaskets were fitted”. The file shows that she has been well looked after in the past 26 years. She comes with a handbook and spare keys. She may be viewed, strictly by appointment. |
