Lot No: 42
Year Make Model Mileage SOLD FOR
1975 Triumph TR6 33,177 (Not Warranted) £17,500.00 + buyers premium

Description:

Supplied new with factory steel hardtop, to Louisiana, USA, in 1975 where it lived but saw very little use until repatriation in 2013. The mileage reading of 33000 is quite likely to be genuine as on return from the USA it still retained its original pedal rubbers (still fitted now) and “red band tyres”, which showed wear commensurate with the low miles. Since then the car has undergone a comprehensive restoration to a very high standard resulting in a superb looking example with a quality finish and excellent panel gaps. The doors open and shut correctly and the fit of the hardtop verifies that everything is where it should be.
The engine, gearbox and diff have not been dismantled owing to the very low mileage. The engine shows strong oil pressure, even on tick over. Underneath the rocker cover was very clean with no carbon deposit or sludge. All the fluids have been changed and a spin on oil filter conversion fitted. All the US spec emissions items have been removed and the car now runs on twin SU carbs with a free flow stainless steel exhaust system returning the power output to near that of the injection models. (Sounds awesome)
Complete strip down of the bodywork revealed very little corrosion, mainly to the floor and adjoining sills, more than likely as a result of sitting with wet carpets. The full floor pans, inner and outer sills were replaced with new panels. Some minor repairs were needed to the front inner panels and the lower parts of the front wings. Both doors and the bonnet were in excellent condition. The boot lid required some repair to the rear lip. The inner surfaces of the new panels were give a coat of rust preventative paint and all other repaired and cleaned up areas were similarly treated before overcoating with body colour. Panel cavities and chassis internals have been coated with rust inhibiting wax.
All the suspension components have been removed, refurbished, new parts fitted where necessary and polybushed throughout. The braking system has received similar, with new cylinders, brake shoes and EBC green stuff pads. The handbrake linkages have modified to give a proper working brake that actually holds on a hill. (The standard set up was barely adequate and always proved difficult to get an MOT pass). A telescopic shock absorber conversion kit has been fitted to the rear, along with slightly lowered springs and Gaz adjustable dampers all round.
The very pleasant interior has a new walnut dash, trim panels and carpets. A Moto-Lita steering wheel and heated leather seats (not wired) finish it off nicely. The hardtop has a new headliner and trim panels fitted.
There is a refurbished hood frame with the car along with the original steering wheel and some assorted parts.

Registration in the UK is presently under way and will be complete before the auction date. A heritage certificate will also be supplied. The car has a new MOT certificate with no advisories. It will be registered as Historic and as such eligible for tax exemption.
There is a full photographic record of the work carried out contained in a history file along with all the receipts for new parts. The end result is a beautiful car, but there is still scope for further improvement and personal taste.

NB: This car does have overdrive

Auctioneers Notes: I cannot stress the point enough – this car is in exceptional condition.  She has been totally re-built.  If you can find a better one I would like to see it.  She can be viewed by appointment as from now – magnificent !
