Description:Description from The Vendor: XG 2994 Came into present ownership 26th May 2008, having been driven down from Durham by previous owner. It was the owner in Durham who completely stripped the car down to chassis and last nut & bolt, to carry out a complete overhaul inc a respray & all running gear inc engine rebuild, gearbox rebuild and rear axle Originally registered in Middlesborough. XG 2994, was in its day, the top of the range in these models, such as twin wipers (instead of just one, rear seat arm rests, rear seating newspaper net in roof lining, handle winders for all four quarter windows, front & rear. XG 2994 is powered by a 1530cc six cylinder OHV engine, four speed gearbox (1st & 2nd being “crash gears”) The bodywork is quite good at present although a few signs of age! Seats in green leather, to match spoked wheels. Although XG2994 is now MOT exempt, being over 40 years old, the present owner still takes it to his local garage every two years for an MOT-like inspection. A new clutch assembly was fitted just a few years ago, along with an electric fuel pump, giving more reliable power. XG 29994 has a working sunshine roof and opening windscreen too!
Auctioneer’s notes: Back in the twenties and thirties the Vauxhall was an upmarket car and as General Motors had taken over the company they wanted to produce a volume selling car. The factory was in Luton and, incidentally, 1934 was the year when compulsory driving tests were introduced. These cars have a superb straight six engine, producing 36 BHP allowing them to obtain a top speed of 60 mph. The engine drives through a 4-speed gear box which has synchromesh on third and top and their suspension was advanced for the day having hydraulic shock absorbers all round She is now 87 years old and presents well.
