On the Surface: This is a rare and desirable 1987 Vauxhall Cavalier Cabriolet which is in fantastic condition for it’s age. Finished in white with a contrasting black soft top, it features a grey cloth interior with Recaro-style bucket seats in the front. This vehicle is one of just 29 Mk II Cavalier Cabriolets still registered for use on UK roads.

Maintenance & History: The car’s maintenance history is exceptionally well-documented. Accompanying this Cavalier is a huge history file, which includes old MOTs, a Cavalier Convertible Cassette, the original Cavalier Operation-Safety-Maintenance Manual, an original Cavalier Approved Accessories brochure, and Cavalier Convertible tax discs dating back to 1993. Additionally, it comes with a Hammond & Thiede Service Instructions booklet, a Hammond & Thiede Spare Parts Catalogue, and various invoices.

With just five owners over its 37-year lifespan, this Cabriolet has been cherished and well-cared for. The history file also includes the original purchase invoice, showing the car was bought new in 1987 for £11,319.49, less £4,229.49 for the part exchange of a 1.2 Vauxhall Nova.

The Model: To help boost sales of the MkII Cavalier, Vauxhall introduced a convertible version in 1985. Based on the fuel-injected 1.8 three-door saloon, the conversion work was carried out by Hammond & Thiede. This model came with high equipment levels for the era, enhancing its appeal. Vauxhall produced 807,624 examples of the second-generation Cavalier between 1981 and 1988, making it a significant model in the brand’s history. By December 1989, it was the third most common car on British roads.

Sale Insight: This rare 1987 Vauxhall Cavalier Irmscher Cabriolet offers a unique opportunity. Its exceptional condition, comprehensive history file and current day rarity make it a standout choice for those looking for a classic with a bit of a difference.
