Description:

In Brief:

  • Very rare example of a Volvo 1800ES with 3-speed Borg-Warner automatic gearbox
  • Finished in Gold Metallic over a Black interior
  • In the ownership of The Vendor for the last 3 years – in the same family for the last 33 years
  • 1 of just 2 automatic examples of the 1800ES registered for use on UK roads
  • Room for minor restoration and recommissioning

On the Surface: This 1973 Volvo 1800ES, finished in striking Gold Metallic over a Black interior, presents a charming opportunity for enthusiasts. While the vehicle is in decent overall condition and currently runs and drives, it would benefit from some minor restoration/recommissioning work. The exterior has received attention, with bodywork repairs and a full respray carried out 3 years ago according to The Vendor. However, the interior could use a thorough clean to bring it back to its best.

Maintenance & History: Having spent the last 32 years garaged, the car shows signs of careful storage but is in need of some recommissioning to fully return it to its former glory. The vehicle comes with a small collection of documents, including a handful of MOTs and invoices. Additionally, some spare parts are included, stored in the boot. With a bit of attention, this 1800ES can easily be brought up to the next level.

In the current ownership of The Vendor for the past 3 years, this Volvo has been a cherished part of the family for the last 33. It was registered in The Vendor’s name following his father’s passing, and during its time with the family, it has been garaged.

The Model: The Volvo 1800ES was introduced in 1972 as the final variant of the P1800 range, featuring a unique two-door shooting brake design with a frameless, all-glass tailgate. The 1800ES engine was slightly detuned to 125 bhp, improving on-road performance by making the engine less “peaky” as claimed by Volvo. Notably, this example is fitted with the rare Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission, making it one of only two automatic 1800ES models currently registered for use on UK roads, according to howmanyleft.co.uk.

Sale Insight: This is a chance to acquire a rare iconic Volvo 1800ES with an automatic transmission. a long family history and a solid foundation.
