The W180 Ponton with the 220S nomenclature was the precursor to today’s S Class Mercedes. Featuring a powerful 2.2 litre straight 6 cylinder engine fuelled through twin carbs which produces 100BHP, this car has a top speed of 100MPH. The body is 10” longer than its smaller Ponton 190 4 cylinder stablemate and is more luxuriously finished with lots of additional chrome and interior fittings. This very rare RHD UK supplied car was first registered to a Mr Miller in Devon on the 1th June 1959. Finished in grey with red interior with 4 speed column shift. All the original features are preserved including the entire interior along with the rubber mats for the front passengers and the red carpets in the rear. Striking period fittings such as the white steering wheel with indicator controls on the chrome ring which is also shared by the 300SL Gullwing, garment rails, interior window hardwood surrounds, hardwood dash, wool headcloth, original Pye radio and the typical Teutonic switches are all retained. Very solid throughout, the car drives surprising well when compared to rivals of its era. Performance is brisk with adequate power on hand. Handling is very tight with not a rattle or squeak to be heard. A 200 mile trip consisting mainly of motorway driving has recently been undertaken in comfort and without drama. An efficient heater adds to the usability. Car retains a nice level of patina throughout.  The history file contains the original buff log book as well as some old MOTs and service receipts. The oldest of these is from 1976 with mileage recorded of 89,000 miles. Only a further 8000 miles have been clocked up in the following 39 years.
