1986 | Nissan | Skyline R31 4 Door Hardtop | 58,000 (Not Warranted) | £8250.00 + buyers premium | |
Description:For those looking for something a little bit different, this could well be THE car. This is the only R31 Hardtop in the UK so is totally unique and also somewhat of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, powered by Nissan’s fabulous RB20DET engine which was factory fitted, contrary to the popular belief that it first appeared in the R32 models. The silky smooth bulletproof 2.0 litre 24 valve turbocharged engine is coupled to a 5 speed manual gearbox putting the power onto the road via a limited slip differential, again all factory fitted. The car was imported into the UK in April 2015 and not much is known about it’s past history in Japan other than that it was obviously cherished and well looked after, which is what the Japanese tend to do anyway. The whole car is totally rust free and a lot of the paintwork is original, only having been redone locally since arrival in the UK, where it had worn thin through polishing and a chip here and there. The car features air conditioning, automatic lights, and rain sensing wipers, all unheard of in cars of the 80’s and there’s even an air purifying unit mounted on the rear parcel shelf. The interior is typically 1980’s being a bit angular and with an odd sort of colour scheme, but it is well designed and shows little wear which corresponds with the low mileage of 58000. In the interests of comfort the front seats have been changed for a pair of Recaros but the originals are available and will accompany the car. (There is some wear to the driver’s side bolster). The mechanical components are for the most part the same as fitted to the later and more familiar family of Skylines, well known for their reliability, and making for easy sourcing of spares should it be necessary. Non standard items that were fitted to the car in Japan :- Adjustable front and rear suspension units, Engine ECU, Quick shift gearlever assembly, Turbo timer. The original and also extremely rare Watanabe magnesium wheels will also be included in the sale. There is an image of the car with them fitted and one is in the boot for viewing. There is a space saver spare in good condition and the original jack. Handbooks plus other documents are present albeit in Japanese, plus a UK history file. Whoever set up the suspension and brakes in Japan certainly knew their “stuff” giving it impeccable road manners with perfectly balanced handling. This car is a sheer delight to drive and with around 300 BHP and 7000RPM available it certainly doesn’t hang about, but is equally happy to poodle around in top at 1500 RPM, making it economical as a regular driver. Since importation it has seen daily use, with the exception of the winter months to keep any salt away, and has been 100% reliable. |
