1933 Alvis Firefly 12 Saloon 5,648 (Not Warranted) £10,000 + buyers premium

Description:

CAR IS A NON RUNNER BUT ENGINE IS FREE AND DOES TURN OVER.

On the Surface: This is a 1933 Alvis Firefly 12 Saloon, acquired by The Vendor in 2000 from an Alvis Owner’s Club member in Norfolk. A bare metal respray restored its original Alvis black exterior, plus the wheels have had their vintage charm restored thanks to a return to cream-colored Alvis wheels. The bodywork and interior remain in great condition.

Maintenance: Throughout The Vendor’s ownership, lots of attention has been devoted to enhancing the vehicle. Notable modernisations include a comprehensive replacement of the wiring loom. The headlights were transformed to incorporate double dipping, and an electric fan was thoughtfully integrated to prevent overheating. Upgrades to twin rear lamps and the addition of modern indicators were implemented, significantly enhancing safety without compromising the car’s authentic aesthetic. The gearbox transitioned from the original crash box to a user-friendly 5-speed Ford design, ensuring a smoother driving experience. Furthermore, the fuel gauge was modernised to an electric format for improved accuracy. Fresh tires and four new leaf springs fitted in 2022 reflect a commitment to maintaining peak performance.

History: Accompanying the vehicle is a decent wedge of historical documentation. Extensive write-ups penned by the current keeper provide the car’s backstory, chronicling the car’s journey and detailing the comprehensive work undertaken. The history file contains a wealth of valuable items, including past MOT records from 1996 to 2011, an old book pack housing invoices, and Logbooks dated back to 1945 and 1962. Additionally, a spare parts catalogue, running instructions booklet, and an original Alvis advertisement contribute to the car’s captivating history file.

The Model: The Alvis Firefly was manufactured 1932 until 1934. It followed on from the 12/50 TJ model. The car has a four-cylinder engine with overhead valves. The engine was essentially the same as the 12/50 TH model from 1927 and the 12/50 SD from 1927 to 1929. This made it cheap to manufacture and the model fitted into the 1.5-liter class which was popular at that time.

Sale Insight: Regrettably, The Vendor must part ways with this cherished automobile due to an inability to utilise it any longer. While currently a non-runner, the engine remains free and can turn over. Despite this, the vehicle’s bodywork and interior remain in commendable condition.
