Maintenance: There are no real details on any maintenance to this Chummy, however, the car was fitted with a new battery as it was taken out of storage to be entered into this sale.

History: The history file for this Chummy may not be extensive, but it does contain some useful reading, including what appears to be the original registration document, the current registration document, and an Austin Seven Tribute book.

The Model: The Austin Seven is arguably one of the most important British cars ever built. When the Austin Seven first appeared in 1922, it flipped the affordable light and cycle car market on it’s head, making motoring accessible to a broader audience. Priced around £150, it became the car of choice for the comfortably-off lower middle classes. Unlike many budget cars of its time, the Austin Seven was designed as a scaled-down version of motoring, not an upsized motorcycle. The Austin Company’s reputation for quality ensured that this small car offered the feel of a big car. It could reach a respectable top speed of 50mph and, even more impressively, it delivered 50 miles to the gallon of petrol. The Austin Seven wasn’t just a car; it became a four-wheeled friend to its owners hence why the endearing name ‘Chummy’ has stuck in the way that it has!
