Austin A35 registration 496 AAU (Audrey) was first registered on 27th August 1957. She was purchased by Mr S Karp of Nottingham and retained for at least the first 10 years according to the original Registration book and also the MOT in Solihull in 1968. I am her 4th keeper in over 65 years.

The main history is from her 2nd owner Mr Munn of Parkstone, Poole and in 2011 an MOT was issued at Pottery Service Station on Ringwood Road with an Odometer reading 83,823 miles. Various photos with Dorset Austin Club verification signatures confirming original number plates accompanied by DVLA signatories, indicates she was not in use for a considerable time if not many years. It appears the engine had an overhaul at this time with receipts for piston sets, screw in oil filter conversion kit, cosmetic work/paint in Speedwell blue.

The 3rd owner, Mr Hayter of the Isle of Wight, purchased the car on 25/05/2016. During his ownership, seems to have recommissioned her further with various works at 85,000 miles including a reconditioned smooth case gearbox, new clutch/pressure plate, thrust bearing and gearbox mountings. Engine mountings also replaced and receipts for replacing the rear brake liners. Purchasing on 22/10/2020, I have maintained the car myself and used a local garage owner whom specialises in classics. She has been serviced on a regular basis with the essential greasing underneath. In my ownership, I have receipts and have replaced the fuel pump, electrical components such as distributor cap, points, rotor arm, HT leads, Spark plugs, new battery and terminals and reconditioned the c39 Dynamo in March 2021. I have also replaced the fan belt, rear bump stops and the washer bottle electric pump. At 88,900 miles I replaced the head gasket which may have been caused by a faulty thermostat which has also been replaced. The cylinder head has been skimmed professionally and the valves removed and decoked and lapped in. The valve stem seals also replaced. Oil and filter service and new red coolant installed. I have also recommissioned the interior heater with new parts so she is now nice and toasty! Audrey’s current mileage is 90,123.

On driving around, she brings so many smiles and turned heads and certainly gets such a lot of attention for such a small car. She is very nippy with her 948cc A series engine and SU carb and extremely economical. I have also just installed a USB point via an auto electrician and positioned subtlety below the dash to make her more tech ready. Using the car daily, I have found and addressed any issues and as I needed the reliability to turn the key and pull that starter button and not let me down.

I have various original owners servicing manuals to help the new owner keep her going for years to come and enjoy her as much as my Partner and I have.

This is a truly outstanding A 35 and being a 35 she benefits from the larger 998cc engine – and this car comes with the original buff log book plus copies of old V5C’s, you even have an instruction manual to find your way around the car.  There are a good number of invoices, the last one is dated 4.5.22, you also have old MOT’s from 1968, Car Club Magazines and a spare key.  Come and view, this cracking little car, strictly by appointment.
