On the Surface: This 1972 MG Midget, has been cherished by The Vendor since July 2012. Painted in the ever-popular ‘Blaze Red,’ its exterior complements the tan/biscuit interior, adorned with a walnut dashboard and a classic ‘Motalita’ wood rim steering wheel. Maintenance: The care and attention given to this MG Midget is evident in the meticulous maintenance records. The Vendor’s journey with the car began in 2012 when it was acquired for £7,600 from Chorlton House Motor Company while an earlier purchase invoice reveals it was bought in 1991 by a previous owner for a mere £500! Invoices totaling almost £8,000 detail various parts and labour expenses, including a significant £3,008.16 in 2005. Noteworthy is a 2016 invoice amounting to £528.70, addressing a windscreen wiper issue. Accompanying the financial trail are MOT certificates from 1992 to 2005. History: Delving into the MG Midget’s past unveils a rich photographic restoration history from the early 1990s when it underwent a thorough rejuvenation at PJM Motors of Market Drayton. The provided invoices align seamlessly with the restoration photographs. The Model: The MG Midget is a small two-seater lightweight sports car produced by MG from 1961 to 1979. It revived a name that had been used on earlier models such as the MG M-type, MG D-type, MG J-type and MG T-type. This example is a MK III which is significant due to the introduction of the 1275cc engine also seen in the Mini-Cooper ‘S’. This was a detuned version of the 76 bhp Cooper ‘S’ engine, giving only 65 hp at 6000 rpm. The detuned engine was used for reasons of model range placement – with the Cooper ‘S’ spec engine, the Midget could have been faster than the more expensive MGB. Sale Insight: After an impressive tenure of nearly 12 years, The Vendor has made the difficult decision to part ways with this delightful MG Midget.
