On the Surface: This is a very honest and original feel example of a 1966 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. The car was imported from South Africa and registered in the UK in January 2008 as an original RHD example.

Maintenance & History: Owned by The Vendor as part of his own private collection since 2010, this Karmann Ghia has recently been recommissioned by the Karmann Ghia Centre of Chipperfield after coming out of long term storage, the work undertaken includes the following: fitment of new door hinges to the drivers door, removal of the petrol tank and flushing out of old petrol, testing petrol tank for leaks, removal and lubrication of of petrol tank sender, flushing of metal line from petrol tank to the engine bay, removal of distributor to fit new points, rotor arm and cap, removal of carb to flush out and rebuild with new pump seals, removal of headlights to fit new sealed beam holders and sealed beams, fitment of new side light holders with wiring, removal of seized brake master cylinder, sourcing and fitting new brake master cylinder, removal of all wheels and brake drums to clean off brak black plates, fitment of new brake wheel cylinders and flexible brake hoses for the front and rear, refitting of cleaned brake drums, adjustment of brake shoes, bleeding of brake system, supplying and fitting of new steering damper, supplying and fitting new front shock with rubber tops, removal of old exhaust and fitment of a good condition used one with new chrome exhaust tips and new clamps, cutting out of rust from the offside heat exchanger to the exhaust and welding in of new sleeve, rectification of rust hole on inlet manifold, supply and fitment of good condition used drivers door window rachet, rectification of offside front indicators poor earth, supply and fitment of new front seat belts, servicing of engine including new plugs, an oil change, setting of tappets, igntion timing work and work on CO2 mixture, supply and fitment of new petrol pipe to meet E10 petrol requirements, supply and fitment of new battery, adjustment of battery clamp, supply and fitment of new nearside swing axle boot, removal of rust on floor pan and undersealing once removed and finally, mopping and polishing exterior of car. The invoice for this work can be found in the history file and it amounts to £3,577.51.

The Model: The Karmann Ghia was only the second Volkswagen passenger car ever produced, after the Beetle. Volkswagen produced over 445,000 Karmann Ghia’s, however, just over 800 are now registered for use on UK roads Today.

Sale Insight: How often does this opportunity arrive? It’s not often you see a Karmann Ghia so to find one as original as this, with all the recommissioning already being undertaken is a rare event indeed.
