Armstrong Siddeley Hurricane – 1947 – 2 litre 4 speed manual edition – straight six.

This is 1 car of a 14 car collection entered into the auction from a private collector.This car was purchased by the current owner for his extensive collection of vehicles and is very rare to come across these days. This 1947 model with a 2ltr straight six engine and 4 speed manual gearbox, is very pleasant to drive. It is a full 5 seater car with very wide doors for ease of access when travelling with passengers in the back. This lovely car would benefit from a full re-spray at sometime in the future, as a small amount of paint has come off the body in the past. The mileage although shown at 29k can’t be confirmed as we don’t have sufficient paperwork to back this up.

The body itself is solid, with the beige colour and its smooth lines it makes for a very grand looking 3 position drophead coupe indeed. This car has had the benefit of a total rewire and re-upholstered seats, with a full service and re-tune to have it running

smoothly as it should.

The Hurricane was produced from 1946 to 1953 and was based on the Lancaster Saloon, only 2,600 were made with this particular model sporting a 70hp overhead valve engine. The chassis featured independent front suspension using torsion bars and a live rear axle with leaf springs. A Girling hydro-mechanical braking system was fitted, with the front drums hydraulically operated while those at the rear used rod and cable. The body is made of steel and aluminium panel, fitted over a wood and aluminium frame. The doors are rear hinged which is why they got the name of suicide doors. At the original launch of this model in 1946 the cost of the car was £1,151 in the UK.
