Bought as a restoration project in 2015. Regretfully there was no service history with the vehicle so the engine was serviced and a new cambelt was fitted together with a new water pump and radiator. The hoses for the radiator were replaced with factory originals from Audi in Germany. The front brake callipers and brake hoses were also replaced. The old fuel injection pipes were leaking and beyond redemption so a replacement Audi fuel metering head was fitted. New race quality fuel injection pipes from Earls Performance products in Silverstone were then purchased at a cost of £190.00. The four-wheel drive system was also overhauled to ensure that it worked correctly along with the limited slip differentials front and rear.
The previous owner had unfortunately managed to detach the vehicles sunroof whilst driving several years before the vendor bought the car, this in turn resulted in it being damaged. He did go back and pick it up, but rather than repair the damage he used bathroom sealant to glue the sunroof back in and then used duct tape over the gaps and never used the vehicle again. On purchase it was evident that water ingress had rotted the windscreen pillars and the scuttle panel and also rotted the carpets and damaged the seats. The vendor managed to obtain a replacement sunroof and amazingly managed to obtain one of the last original sunroof seals and a windscreen rubber seal from Audi in Germany, this meant that the windscreen could be removed so that all of the rust sections could be cut out and replaced by a local body shop at a cost of £1379.00.
The carpet literally fell apart as it was being removed and the glued in underfelt was acting as a sponge, so the vendor removed it all as he was concerned that the footwells may have rotted as well. Luckily, they hadn’t and after some sanding he repainted the floor.
As the Audi had no service history prior to his ownership the vendor decided that once it was drivable and back on the road, he would use it for the occasional hill climb event. The original interior was removed and the car is currently fitted with a Safety Devices roll cage, two Sparco rally seats and road legal three-point racing harnesses. An F.I.A compliant 1.5kg fire extinguisher was also fitted. There is also an additional set of original Audi coupe quattro wheels, although the tyres will need replacing. The vendor still has the original interior and associated parts should the new owner wish to collect them from Cornwall. (they would not fit in the car).
Regretfully the Quattro was never used on a hill climb and has only been used sparingly during the vendors’s ownership, due mainly to him becoming a carer for his elderly mother. It is now for sale to fund care home fees.
